Archstone-Smith COO retires

Archstone-Smith COO retires, Lindsay Freeman, Archstone-Smith Chief Operating Officer, who joined the company 13 years ago and was promoted to COO in 2002, is retiring effective at the end of the year. CEO R. Scot Sellers praised Freeman's contribution to the company, calling him "a fantastic partner in every sense of the word: always dependable, incredibly supportive, exceptionally service-oriented -- with a wonderful affinity and loyalty for people."

Freeman is being replaced by Charles E. Mueller, Jr., who also joined Archstone-Smith 13 years ago and served for the past eight years as chief financial officer. Other executive changes coinciding with Freeman’s retirement include the promotion of Executive VP-East Operations Jack R. Callison to the newly created post of president – U.S. operations. Gerald R. Morgan, senior vice president – national operations, will take over as chief financial officer.

As of Q3 2006, Archstone-Smith wholly owned or had an ownership interest in 89,699 units in 353 apartment communities concentrated mostly in East and West Coast markets.
