Pathway to Living has acquired the assisted living and memory care community formerly known as Elmcroft of Kentwood, located at 4352 Breton Road SE in Kentwood, Mich. The property has been rebranded Azpira Place of Breton and will be managed by Pathway, which plans to renovate the community.

Pathway to Living, a Chicago-based developer, owner and operator of senior living communities, today announced it has completed its acquisition of the property formerly known as Elmcroft of Kentwood in Kentwood, Mich. Located at 4352 Breton Road SE, just under 10 miles from Grand Rapids, the assisted living and memory care community – Pathway’s first in Michigan – has been rebranded Azpira Place of Breton and will be managed by Pathway to Living, effective immediately.

“We’re excited to expand our growing portfolio of senior living communities into Michigan,” said Jerome Finis, CEO of Pathway to Living. “This acquisition gives us an immediate presence in an underserved market and aligns with our strategy of investing in well-located properties where there’s room to add high-quality amenities.”

In the coming months, Pathway to Living will initiate a capital improvement program at the 54,387-square-foot property that will include upgrading interiors and adding additional spaces to support a wellness-focused lifestyle for residents.

Select unit layouts will also be reconfigured. When the work is complete, Azpira Place of Breton will offer a total of 81 apartments – 69 assisted living residences in studio and one-bedroom layouts as well as 12 memory care residences in studio or shared-suite plans.

Memory care residents will benefit from A Knew Day, Pathway to Living’s signature approach to memory care. The program offers exceptional support, understanding and connection for residents with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other forms of memory loss.

The experience of all Azpira Place of Breton residents will be enriched through Pathway to Living’s award-winning VIVA! philosophy, where social, educational and recreational programs are matched with interests, skills and desires.

For example, Art Path teaches techniques used by famed artists, sculptors and curators; Good Vibrations encourages self-expression and socialization through drum circles; and Camp VIVA! provides daytime and overnight excursions during which residents can partake in various outdoor activities, such as fishing, swimming, archery and horseback riding.

“Azpira Place of Breton will join our other communities in providing both our A Knew Day and VIVA! lifestyles, which are carefully designed to introduce an inspired standard of living,” said Maria Oliva, chief operating officer at Pathway to Living. “We’re proud to support our residents’ desires to continue to live a purposeful and meaningful life.”

Set on a 5-acre site near the intersection of Breton Road and 44th Street, Azpira Place of Breton is conveniently located near retail centers and restaurants, recreational destinations including golf courses, and Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

The purchase of Azpira Place of Breton from Kentucky-based Elmcroft Senior Living is Pathway to Living’s first acquisition of 2018. The firm now owns or manages 29 communities comprising approximately 2,800 units.
