The National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) Board of Directors named Sharon Wilson Géno as President during its 2023 Annual Meeting. Wilson Géno has been serving as President-Elect since September. She takes the helm from long-time President Doug Bibby, who announced his intent to step down in 2021.

Before joining NMHC this past fall, Wilson Géno served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Volunteers of America National Services. For the entirety of her career, she has helped guide numerous for-profit, nonprofit and governmental entities on housing affordability, housing policy and related development and operational issues.

“I am excited for the opportunity to lead this distinguished organization,” said Wilson Géno. “This is a unique moment in time. In my 30 years of working on housing issues, there has never been a time when housing was a priority issue. The U.S. is suffering from a serious shortage of all types of housing at all price points. NMHC and its members stand ready to help meet the need.”

“Sharon is the ideal person to lead NMHC in this new era,” said Ken Valach, CEO of Trammell Crow Residential and 2022-2024 Chair of NMHC. “She has a deep background in housing policy, experience developing and operating apartments and proven organizational management experience. In the past three months, she’s engaged in discussions with the White House and housing providers across the real estate spectrum on solutions that will lower costs and broaden housing opportunity.”
