Situated at 80 Freeman Street, The Ballantine offers convenient access to Newark Penn Station, with service to New York City, and is just half a mile from Riverbank Park to the north and the Ironbound’s cultural hub to the west.

Leasing has officially launched for The Ballantine, a brand-new luxury rental building located on the iconic Ballantine Brewery site in Newark’s culturally rich Ironbound neighborhood.

Developed by Shorewood in partnership with Bridge Investment Group, the striking new building features a collection of 280 studio to two-bedroom residences, modern amenities, and 2,600 square feet of retail space. Monthly rents for the homes start from the $2,000’s with grand opening incentives that include up to two months free. Initial occupancy is scheduled for April. The Marketing Directors is the exclusive marketing and leasing agent.

The Ballantine was celebrated earlier this year when Newark officials and the developers joined for a ceremonial ribbon cutting ceremony held in the building’s magnificent lobby. The property was hailed for transforming a historic site once home to one of America’s oldest beer brands into a new community that will deliver new energy to the Ironbound neighborhood.

“The Ballantine marks an important chapter in Newark’s growth, thoughtfully integrating the site’s historic significance with a modern vision for the Ironbound’s northern edge,” said Larry Davis, CEO of Shorewood Real Estate Group. “As our inaugural project in Newark, we saw an opportunity to revitalize a once-prominent, but underutilized property into an extension of the neighborhood, providing residents with a contemporary living experience rooted in local character. The Ballantine is one of the most anticipated new residential openings in the Ironbound in recent memory. We’re excited to officially open its doors to the public.”

Designed by Minno & Wasko Architects, with landscaping by Melillo Bauer Carman, The Ballantine features thoughtfully designed homes with premium finishes such as 9-foot ceilings, luxury plank flooring, custom closets, in-home washer and dryers, and smart lock systems. Kitchens come equipped with stainless steel appliances, Silestone countertops, full-height tiled backsplashes, and soft-close cabinetry. Bathrooms feature porcelain tile floors, Silestone vanity countertops, and full-height ceramic tiled walls. Select residences also offer private patios or terraces.

Amenities are designed to enhance residents’ lifestyles, including concierge services, a rooftop deck with lounge areas, and courtyard with BBQs and dining spaces. Additional highlights include a fitness center, yoga studio, game room with multi-sport simulator, co-working areas, a resident lounge, pet spa, bike storage, onsite parking with EV charging stations and shuttle service to Newark Penn Station.
