EAH Housing, one of the largest and most respected nonprofit housing development and management organizations in Hawai’i and California, announced the start of leasing at Aloha Iā Halewilikō, a new $62 million affordable rental community for older adults in ‘Aiea.
“We are thrilled to welcome our newest residents to Aloha Iā Halewilikō,” said Laura Hall, CEO of EAH Housing. “This community reflects our mission to build more than just housing – we are creating a place where kūpuna can live independently with dignity, support, and connection.”
Located on the former site of the ‘Aiea Sugar Mill at 99-385 Pōhai Place, Aloha Iā Halewilikō offers 83 studio apartments, 56 one-bedroom apartments, and a manager’s unit. Rents are set at affordable rates for households earning 30%, 50%, and 60% of the area median income (AMI). Currently, limited availability remains for future residents qualifying at the 50% and 60% AMI levels, with rents ranging from approximately $1,261 to $1,627 per month, depending on the unit type and income qualification.
Nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood adjacent to the ‘Aiea Public Library, the three-story community is part of the broader ‘Aiea Town Center Master Plan and is conveniently located near public transportation, shops, and neighborhood services.
“Communities like Aloha Iā Halewilikō show what is possible when public and private partners work together to serve our people,” said Governor Josh Green, M.D. “Creating safe, affordable homes for our kūpuna honors our values and strengthens our social fabric.”
Designed to foster independence and well-being, Aloha Iā Halewilikō boasts a multipurpose room, walking paths, fitness facilities, community gardens, and digital literacy programs. Lanakila Pacific, a local nonprofit partner, will provide on-site services, including Meals on Wheels and wellness programming to support aging in place.
“Affordable housing is everyone’s kuleana, and this community carries forward the tradition of caring for one another that defines Hawai’i,” added Mayor Rick Blangiardi.
EAH Housing currently manages 23 properties with more than 2,700 units across Hawai’i and has three additional affordable housing developments underway, including Hale Nā Koa ‘O Hanakahi in Hilo.
