"Los Angeles is a city of doers and unlocking the potential for tremendous transformation can often be a matter of a simple introduction," said Sarah Dusseault, Lead Strategist for LA4LA. "At LA4LA, we firmly believe that building more housing starts with building connections and this is a prime example of that."

Logos Faith Development (LOGOS), announced a new Program Related Investment of more than $500,000 from the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Foundation (RPDFF) that will help it convert underutilized churches and adjacent lots into critically needed affordable housing in South Los Angeles.

The capital infusion will support LOGOS, a Los Angeles-based social impact real estate firm, in the pre-development of a new 24-unit, 100% affordable apartment complex designed to serve low-income households and Section 8 voucher holders in historic South Los Angeles. The funding will primarily be used for the architectural and planning work necessary to bring the project to permit-ready status. The development is slated to begin construction in 2026.

“We are honored to receive this funding and show of support and validation for LOGOS from such an iconic foundation,” said Pastor Martin Porter, Founder and CEO of Logos Faith Development. “We think this is the beginning of a great partnership between our two organizations to get into the breach and solve the lack of affordable housing in the region. Together is better!”

LOGOS and the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Foundation share a deep commitment to addressing the housing insecurity crisis in Los Angeles. Under the leadership of CEO Shawn Escoffery, the Foundation has sharpened its focus on Affordable Housing Preservation, investing significant grant and impact capital to support and sustain affordable housing initiatives.

“We believe that safe, secure, and affordable housing is the cornerstone of any thriving community,” said Shawn Escoffery, CEO of the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Foundation. “In a time when housing costs are displacing far too many Angelenos, we are proud to support LOGOS Faith Development and their innovative approach to converting underutilized land into housing opportunities for those who need them most. This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to housing affordability and long-term community stability in South Los Angeles and beyond.”

The new funding was catalyzed by several organizations with a shared mission of expanding affordable housing in Los Angeles. Through Pastor Porter’s longstanding relationship with Jill Bauman — Co-Founder of Social Benefit and CEO Emeritus of Imagine LA, a nonprofit committed to ending the generational cycle of homelessness and poverty — the team was introduced to Sarah Dusseault, a housing and homelessness policy leader. Dusseault is lead strategist for LA4LA, a public private partnership created to unlock, leverage and scale investments for innovative affordable housing solutions in the region. Dusseault connected LOGOS with Avivar Capital, a U.S.-based impact investment firm. Avivar conducted investment diligence on behalf of RPDFF to evaluate LOGOS as a potential impact investment. These strategic connections followed Los Angeles Mayor Bass’ convening of faith leaders across the city to provide technical assistance for those who sought to build onsite affordable housing.

LOGOS brings a proven track record in this space, leveraging its expertise to create lasting housing solutions in communities across California. With a development pipeline valued at $525 million, LOGOS is actively advancing more than 2,000 affordable housing units in partnership with over 240 faith-based organizations.

LOGOS continues to expand its development team, secure strategic capital commitments, and focus on bringing new affordable housing projects to fruition in Southern California. The firm continues to make significant progress to expand its portfolio of affordable and supportive housing initiatives to meet the urgent needs of communities across the region. The developer recently secured a $11.1 million strategic capital commitment from a private, values-aligned family foundation. This investment, coupled with the commitment from RPDFF, has strengthened LOGOS’ capacity to move toward the construction phase across 12 development sites in Los Angeles and San Diego over the next two years.
