The 14-story, $125 million residential tower will consist of 270 units on top of a 481-space parking garage and 13,000 square feet of retail space on the main level. The units will offer floor-to-ceiling windows and design touches that merge modern and industrial aesthetics.

St. Louis-based architect and designer Lawrence Group and its affiliate developer, New + Found, have broken ground at Vande East at City Foundry, the second phase and first residential section of its City Foundry STL development in St. Louis’s Midtown neighborhood.

“In the dwelling units, attention to detail and high-end finishes create a feeling of abundant space and a sense of quality and timelessness,” said Lawrence Group Senior Associate Dana Peck in the release. “The modern, clean interior design incorporates warm, natural materials, glimpses of exposed concrete, and textures and patterns that make the space feel warm and inviting.”

Amenities will include an outdoor pool and garden deck, a gym, lounges, bike storage, and a dog run.

The location offers access to the Brickline Greenway, a path that connects St. Louis’s downtown to its business district, as well as close proximity to Saint Louis University, the Grand MetroLink station, and the IKEA furniture store.

City Foundry STL is built on the former site of a 15-acre, century-old foundry once used by Century Electric Co. to manufacture motors and generators, according to the release. The first phase, made up entirely of retail and entertainment uses, opened in August 2021. Tenants include an Alamo Drafthouse theater, a 17-restaurant food hall, a VR arcade, indoor mini golf and a variety of local retail businesses.

“We have always imagined that City Foundry would include places to live, which would complement all of the commercial activity and jobs that presently exist in Phase 1,” said Steve Smith, CEO of both Lawrence Group and New + Found, in the release.
